Candidates

1. Wouter hemel

My name is Wouter Hemel, and I study in the bachelor of Philosophy and the master of Social Psychology. The education of our university is not doing well. My biggest concern is that the value of a RUG diploma at the labour market will go down even more. Insight and argumentation are more and more exchanged for just learning facts. With a backpack full of experience and knowledge from the student participation at this university, together with the Calimero party, I will do everything I can to turn this process around.?

2. Madelien Meulenkamp

My name is Madelien Meulenkamp. Currently I’m de chairman of the students of the faculty council behavioural and social sciences. One of the issues we adressed was guaranteed feedback on all essay assignments. Without that feedback, you never know what you did right or wrong. Next year I want to make a start for a university broad policy. Besides that, i think it’s very important that the BSA becomes a way to improve the quality of our education. We as Lijst Calimero will have to guard all the faculties to see if they live up to the given conditions and that education will be givin on the highest level possible. Vote lijst Calimero, for a challenging university.

3. Rajesh Balgobind

I am studying master Tax Law and in 2008 I graduated in Sociology (master). I have recently started flighttraining at Eelde to become an airline pilot. I am also an entrepreneur of a marketresearch office since four years ago. Because of my background and pragmatical set of mind I am widely usable. My motto is: ‘ Don’t talk bullshit, but do something about it.’

4. Lisan Wieringa

My name is Lisan Wieringa, and i’m studying Human Geography ans Planning. Now that I’ve studied at three different faculties I’ve realized that the level of education at the RUG is very unequal. The quality of the lectures, the literature and the exams varies significantly between the faculties. I regret the fact that my study at the Faculty of Spatial Sciences is known as an ‘easy’ study. That’s what comes out of yearly surveys. It motivates me enormously to work hard for qualitative and challenging education for all studies at the RUG! Besides that I’ve noticed that it’s difficult to obtain information about courses from a master at a different faculty. The information about other rules and administrative matters is minimal as well. Next year I want to work hard to improve communication between the different faculties of the RUG.

5. Thijs Wijnmalen

My name is Thijs Wijnmaalen, I’m a third year Technology management student. Next year I would like to work hard to improve the ICT-facilities and the quality of our education material. Both teachers as facilities are not up to date. Computers are often slow and scientific literature used by teachers is often out of date as well. But the RUG has to keep up with our time in a lot more ways. First of all, of all lectures lecturevideos should be made and be published online. Secondly, the RUG should take advantage of the latest techniques during lectures. Bluetooth, text messaging and voting devices are all kinds of ways to make lectures more interesting, more interactive and modern. The university needs a fresh vision, the vision of Calimero.

6. Laura Meems

As a fourth year medical student I’ve gained a lot of experience with different types of education: enormous lectures, small group courses and even lectures at a computer. Despite of all these different forms of education there’s one thing that is always very important: the quality of the teacher. No matter how orginal the teacher or how small the group may be, if the teacher doesn’t live up to the quality norms, then the education will fail no matter what form is used. Rules like the BSA and the ‘harde knip’ show us that it’s normal to ask a lot of students nowadays. Lijst Calimero thinks that teachera should live up to quality norms as well. If teachers do not live up to those norms it should be adressed and something should be done about that. Vote for a challenging university with education at the top, vote Calimero!
